Ambassador Volunteer (Oral History Project Volunteer)

Opportunity image

Do you have a passion for people, stories and community? Keep history alive on our canals as Oral History Volunteer.

As we approach the Bicentenary of Gloucester Docks we need your help to tell the story of the Gloucester and Sharpness canal, gathering accounts from boaters, towpath users and communities along the canal.

In this new role you will be an ambassador, connecting with local people and recording memories of this historic shipping canal. You'll be supported with training and role induction and work as part of a small team of enthusiastic individuals to develop this project through the year.

You will need to be friendly and approachable, a good listener and able to use simple recording equipment. This project requires availability from May to October 2026 for recording accounts and the opportunity to support development of an exhibition at the National Waterways Museum Gloucester in 2027.
