Become an Explorer Volunteer – Leicester Are you passionate about the outdoors, nature, and inspiring the next generation? Join us as an Explorer Volunteer and help bring Nottingham’s waterways to life for local schools and communities. This is more than volunteering — it’s an opportunity to make a real difference.

Inspire. Explore. Connect. As an Explorer Volunteer, you’ll support children and young people to discover the incredible world around them. From bug hunts and pond dipping to exploring how rivers work and why canals exist, every session is an adventure. You could be:

Sparking curiosity through hands-on nature activities Supporting canoe adventures on our waterways Taking part in meaningful citizen science projects Helping young people build confidence, life skills, and wellbeing outdoors

Our waterways are rich with wildlife, heritage, and opportunity — and you’ll play a key role in helping others connect with them.

Supported Every Step of the Way No previous experience? No problem. We’ll give you everything you need to succeed, including:

Full training and ongoing support Easy-to-use resources to help you lead activities confidently Regular training days and relaxed coffee-and-cake volunteer meet-ups

You’ll also be part of a friendly, passionate team, supported by a dedicated Learning & Skills Coordinator and fellow volunteers.
