Conservation Volunteer (Whaley Bridge Towpath Task Force)

Opportunity image

Join us to become a Conservator Volunteer and be part of the team keeping history alive by preserving our waterways. In this role you’ll get to experience our beautiful network and help maintain our structures and assets. Whether it’s working on pre-planned maintenance cutting back vegetation around aqueducts, or tackling graffiti in our more urban locations, our Conservators do a fantastic job of making sure there’s plenty of beauty on the doorstep. This is a great opportunity to make a huge difference in your community whilst learning more about the canals in your area.

The area covered will be the start of the Peak Forest Canal at the Transhipment warehouse in Whaley Bridge up to Swizzels Sweets in New Mills (including the Bugsworth arm). We also have two reservoirs around Whaley Bridge which are Combs reservoir and Toddbrook (once reopened). We will looking at running this role fortnightly to begin with with scope to move to a weekly meet. The timings of the group would run from 10am to around 2pm.
