Waterside Specialist (Earth Structures Volunteer Inspector, various locations)

Opportunity image

We are looking for skilled Civil or Geotechnical Engineers who have experience in inspecting, assessing and reporting on a variety of infrastructure assets, wishing to put their spare time to good use and assist us in monitoring our historic canal and river structures (Cuttings and Embankments with the occasional retaining wall elements to it). Holding Trust certification in relevant Asset Inspections is highly desirable but not essential. Following an initial induction to the Trust and overview of how our Engineers apply our inspection procedures you will be given a small package of structures to inspect from across your region. Each structure will require a site visit and principal inspection including photographs, where you will collect required information using your existing skills and knowledge to identify defects and form conclusions. Inspections will require good physical health to access steep uneven ground, walking long lengths of canal and negotiating challenging levels of vegetation. The use of a vehicle for travel is also essential given the remote locations you may be required to travel to. Weekend Work will be acceptable subject to necessary lone working procedures being in place. Following the site visits you will produce a report and feed back to your local contact. Your Inspection Report findings will be fed into our system by National Earth Structures team and help shape our programme of works for the following years.
