Join us today to become a Conservator Volunteer and be part of the team keeping history alive by preserving our waterways. In this role you’ll get to experience the many faces and locations of our beautiful network and help maintain our assets by helping to clear vegetation along our towpaths and locks along our network, our Conservators do a fantastic job of making sure there’s plenty of beauty on the doorstep. This is a great opportunity to make a huge difference in your community whilst learning more about the canals in your area.

You'll become part of a team that will help us to maintain our towpaths and locks by cutting back vegetation growth along the Worcester - Birmingham Canal and Droitwich Canals.

There will be some mandatory online training before taking up the role that will take a few hours. Once you are trained we will provide you with branded t shirts and polo shirts, and a contribution towards purchasing steel toe capped boots. You will also be trained to use our battery powered strimmers, hedge trimmers, blowers and petrol powered mowers.

Initial recruitment process - 17th March to 18th April

Training process for tools and machinery - Weekly from Monday 21st April:

  • 21st April - Strimmers and blowers
  • 27th April - Mowers
  • 5th May - Hedge trimmers
