Conservation Volunteer (Diggle portal maintenance team.)

Opportunity image

Standedge tunnel is the longest, highest and deepest canal tunnel in the UK. It runs between Marsden and Diggle and is one of the seven wonders of the waterways.

We are looking for volunteers to join our small team to develop the area around the tunnel portal at Diggle to create a more welcoming space for visitors to the Huddersfield Narrow Canal.

The role will involve a range of tasks including, gardening, painting, hard landscaping and maintenance.

Join us today to become a Conservator Volunteer and be part of the team keeping history alive by preserving our waterways and helping to maintain our structures and assets.

Whether it’s working on pre-planned maintenance cutting back vegetation around aqueducts, or tackling graffiti in our more urban locations, our Conservators do a fantastic job of making sure there’s plenty of beauty on the doorstep.

This is a great opportunity to make a huge difference in your community whilst learning more about the canals in your area.
