Interested in learning about conservation whilst helping to look after and improve habitats along the canalside?

We are starting a regular volunteering session on the Second Thursday of Each month where we carry out different tasks aiming to enhance the biodiversitiy of a stretch of the Grand Union Canal and its towpath in Harlesden, West London.

**Tasks could include: **

  • Walking the canalside to assess potential areas where planting could be improved and habitat created
  • Planting sections with native hedgerow and wildflower
  • Watering and maintaining planted sections
  • Water quality monitoring
  • Biodiversity surveying
  • Building and installing bat boxes
  • Cutting back vegetation and managing overgrown areas
  • Litter picking and keeping the towpath looking its best

You don’t need any previous experience. We’ll provide the tools, guidance and support, all you need is some enthusiasm and a willingness to get stuck in. Any past experience and knowledge you do have will be most welcome. We will learn from each other and through doing!

When: Second Thursday of each month (starting 12 Nov 2026) at 10:30 - 13:00. Where: the Canalside in front of The Collective Building: NW106FF

All sessions will be outside so dress for the weather. All equipment provided and no prior experience needed.
