Drop in Volunteer (Let's Balsam Bash - Welsh Harp!)
The Community Roots programme (Brent) focuses on engaging with the local community (specifically non-users) living within 1km of our waterways and improving their perceptions of the water to feel safer, happier and healthier by the water. We champion the many benefits that our waterways offer and encourage more people to use and enjoy them by offering them free wellbeing activities in the area. This programme is supported by players of People's Postcode Lottery.
Come join us and the Welsh Harp Conservation Group on Saturday 1st June at 10 a.m. to tackle Himalayan Balsam. Himalayan Balsam is an invasive species that is fast growing and spreads quickly taking over wetland habitats. Each Himalayan Balsam plant can produce up to 800 seeds and we need to remove this species before the seed spreads. Also, we will be clearing paths and maintain vegetation along the route.
Please meet us at the Relaxing Area off Cool Oak Lane. The what3words location: ///game.intro.maker.
Please wear clothes appropriate for weather conditions (e.g. waterproof jacket) and sturdy, closed footwear. Please wear long trousers and tops. All tools and equipment will be provided, together with expert and friendly support. Remember to bring a drink as it is important to stay hydrated during the day.
Drop-in roles offers a great way to meet other local Trust volunteers and staff, learn new skills, hear about other volunteer opportunities, or just spend a few hours outdoors improving your local waterway environment.
